August 1, 2025—Ottawa—Canada remains deeply concerned about the rapidly deteriorating humanitarian disaster in Gaza. Today, the Honourable Lena Metlege Diab, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, announced the extension of measures for Palestinians who are in Canada and unable to return home.
Ottawa, July 16, 2025—As announced earlier in 2025, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will accept up to 10,000 complete applications for sponsorship under the Parents and Grandparents Program this year. Starting on July 28, 2025, and over the course of approximately two weeks, IRCC will send invitations to apply to interested potential sponsors.
Anyone who submitted an interest to sponsor form in 2020 but has not yet received an invitation to apply is encouraged to check the email account they provided in 2020. They should make sure to check their junk and spam folders.
Due to the number of forms remaining in the pool of interest to sponsor submissions from 2020, IRCC will send invitations to apply to potential sponsors from that pool instead of opening a new interest to sponsor form. Read more
On July 28, 2025, Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers at the Coutts port of entry were conducting a secondary examination of commercial truck seeking entry into Canada from the United States. During the search, CBSA border services officers found a duffle bag containing nearly 67 kg of cocaine, and the driver was subsequently arrested.
Ottawa, July 24, 2025—Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is working with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to resume biometric collection services in Sudan.
Biometric collection was previously paused in Sudan, making it difficult for people who were unable to safely leave Sudan to complete their applications to come to Canada. This partnership will facilitate the application process for some people, by allowing them to submit their biometrics from within Sudan.
